<p>Douglass High School was built in 1941 in what was then a rural area just outside Leesburg, Virginia as the first high school for African-American students in Loudoun County. The school was built on land purchased by the black community and donated to the county. It was the only high school for African-American students until the end of segregation in Loudoun County in 1968.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Douglass High School is a one-story brick building, originally of 9,400 ft&sup2;. The plan is centered on a commons area that functioned as a gymnasium, cafeteria and auditorium, flanked by two classrooms on either side. Large windows light and ventilate the spaces. A large stage area is directly opposite the main entrance, which opens directly into the commons area from a vestibule. Classrooms were added on the rear of the building, followed by a gymnasium in 1960. A vocational wing lies to the west.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Until 1941, the only secondary educational facility available to African-American students in Loudoun County was the upper level of the Loudoun County Training School. The frame structure offered a limited curriculum in an unsafe building. During the late 1930s the black community in Loudoun County organized fundraiser events to purchase 8 acre of land on the east side of Leesburg from W.S. Gibbons. The property was conveyed to Loudoun County for $1 on December 16, 1940. After threats of legal action, the school board approved a measure to borrow $30,000 from the State Literary Fund of Virginia to build the school. A bid from the Taylor Manufacturing Company of Farmville, Virginia was approved for $35,438. The school opened in September 1941. The school was named for African-American abolitionist Frederick Douglass at the request of the community organizers. Since a bare minimum of furnishings were provided by the county, more private donations were sought to more fully furnish the school. With desegregation in 1968 the building became a middle school, then a special education and alternative school.</p><br>
<p>Douglass High School was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 24, 1992.</p><br>
<p>Beaucatcher Mountain is located in a portion of the Appalachian Mountain Range known as the Great Craggy Mountains, in Asheville, North Carolina. Its name was said to have been coined in the mid-1800s by James W. Patton, who once teased his sister-in-law, Charlotte Kerry, after watching her stroll the mountainside with her "beau". Patton suggested her eagerness to walk the mountain was incentive for her beau to spend time with her, thus, the mountain was dubbed Charlotte’s “beau catcher.”</p><br>
<p>Beaucatcher Mountain&#39;s elevation reaches 2,694 ft, providing views of Downtown Asheville. The mountain borders the eastern part of downtown Asheville and has three main roads that tunnel through and go over the mountain. They are: US 70/US 74A via Beaucatcher Tunnel (completed in 1927), I-240 via Beaucatcher Cut (completed in 1980), and a Town Mountain Road (NC 694) which leads towards the Blue Ridge Parkway.</p><br>
<p>Beaucatcher Mountain originally had two reservoirs: White Fawn Reservoir (long ago decommissioned and filled in with construction debris) and Lake Kenilworth. The reservoirs provided drinking water to the city of Asheville beginning in the 1880s.</p><br>
<p>Waters from the mountain eventually make their way to the French Broad River.</p><br>
<p>The Port McArthur Tidal Wetlands System comprises a 994 km tract of tidal wetlands on the south-west coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria in the Northern Territory of Australia. The land extends along the coast opposite the Sir Edward Pellew Group of Islands, incorporating the estuaries of the McArthur and Wearyan Rivers. It is an important site for waders, or shorebirds.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The site lies partly on traditionally owned Aboriginal land and partly on the Bing Bong, Manangoora and Greenbank pastoral leases. The intertidal mudflats are up to 5 km in width and, at low tide, join up with those of South-West Island.</p><br>
<h2>Birds</h2><br>
<p>The site has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because the mudflats have supported over 1% of the world populations of grey-tailed tattlers, eastern curlews and great knots, as well as moderate numbers of Asian dowitchers. Other wader species recorded in substantial numbers include curlew sandpipers, marsh sandpipers and black-tailed godwits. Great-billed herons occur in greater densities than recorded elsewhere in the Northern Territory. Small numbers of beach stone-curlews are present. Little terns breed at sites along the coast. There are at least two large waterbird breeding colonies containing over 3000 egrets, cormorants and pied herons. Non-waterbird species include white-gaped honeyeaters and canary white-eyes.</p><br>
<p>The Ebenezer Baptist Churches are two Baptist churches in Loudoun County, Virginia, the "Old Ebenzer Church," built before 1769, and the "New Ebenezer Church," built about 1855. The churches are associated with corresponding old and new cemeteries.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Old Ebenezer Church was originally known as Butcher&#39;s Meeting House or Ebenezer Meeting House. The church is mentioned in the 1769 will of Samuel Butcher Sr. as already existing. However, some doubt appears to exist concerning whether the present "old church" is that mentioned in the will, as meeting minutes from 1804-1806 describe "finishing the meeting house." Ebenezer Church was organized in 1804 by nine members of the Goose Creek Baptist Church and eight members of the Ketoctin Baptist Church. By the 1830s a schism had developed among Baptists concerning church practices, with "New School Baptists" opposing "Old School" or "Primitive Baptists." By 1834 the congregation had split into these two camps, but both continued to use the church. A fire in 1855 may have spurred the construction of a new church for the New School congregation immediately adjacent to the old church.</p><br>
<p>The Ebenezer Baptist Churches were placed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 3, 1994.</p><br>

<p>The McCulloch County Courthouse is located in Brady, McCulloch County, in the USA state of Texas. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in McCulloch County, Texas in 1977, and became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1967.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>This is the second courthouse to serve McCulloch County. The first county building was erected in 1879. The current courthouse was completed in 1900, and the datestone was laid by the Brady Lodge of the Freemasons on September 29, 1899. Martin & Moodie of Comanche are listed as the builders, with no separate name for an architect. When the decision was made in 1899 to erect a new courthouse, Martin & Moodie submitted their proposal and were awarded the contract. The new three-story sandstone courthouse was in the Richardson Romanesque style, and bears some semblance to the style of architect James Riely Gordon. While the clock tower has areas designed for a clock on each of the four sides, no clock is installed. The courthouse underwent a renovation in 2009, part of which gave the structure a red roof. In both 1936 and 1938, Brady Creek (San Saba River) overflowed its banks and caused flooding in and around the courthouse.</p><br>
<h2>Heart of Texas monument</h2><br>
<p>In 1963, the Texas Historical Commission designated the geographical center of Texas as being located 5 mi northwest of Brady. On the courthouse grounds is a Heart of Texas granite marker designed by Earl V. Finlay. The actual carving and inscription were done in 1958 by Brady native son Gary Bryson. Funding for the 7 ft monument was provided by the Brady Chamber of Commerce and the McCulloch County Commissioners&#39; Court.</p><br>
<p>The I.O.O.F. and Barker Buildings were a pair of historic commercial buildings located in downtown Mount Vernon, Indiana, United States. Constructed at the end of the nineteenth century, the two were once prominent examples of Victorian architecture in the city.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The I.O.O.F. and Barker Buildings were architecturally similar: both were brick buildings with stone trim, and both featured significant Italianate elements, seen most distinctively in their cornices. Few elements of other styles were apparent on the Barker Building, but the I.O.O.F. Building featured the prominent and large rounded window arches common to the Romanesque Revival style. However, the two were easily distinguished by their sizes: the I.O.O.F. was three and a half stories tall with a four-story tower on the corner, and eight bays wide, while the Barker comprised just two stories, and it was only three bays wide.</p><br>
<p>The front of the I.O.O.F. was largely glass: all the bays featured large windows except for the doorway, which was itself illuminated by a transom light, multiple sidelights, and glass panelling in the door itself. Topping each bay were large windows with massive Romanesque Revival arches, which were sometimes seen as creating the appearance of an arcade; the windows of lower floors varied from narrow slits on the southernmost bays of the first floor to large windows with stone lintels in all bays of the second story. Crowning the building was a fourth-story tower, which sat above the front corner: built with a stone cap and stone corners, similar to the pilasters of the first story, it featured a very un-Romanesque ornamental balustrade.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>As the citys oldest fraternal organization, the lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows is one of Mount Vernons most prominent civic groups. By the late 1890s, the lodge was sufficiently wealthy to purchase land near the county courthouse in downtown Mount Vernon and to erect a substantial commercial building on the site. The resulting structure was not used exclusively for fraternal purposes: local businesses and offices used the first and second stories respectively, and the Odd Fellows retained only the third floor for their meetings.</p><br>
<p>Eight years before the construction of the I.O.O.F. Building, Hiram Barker purchased an adjacent lot, but he did nothing with it for several years; around the same time that the Odd Fellows were building their new lodge, he too arranged for the construction of a building. For many years, the primary occupants of the Barker Building were various attorneys, while the leading tenant of the I.O.O.F. building was the Peoples Bank and Trust Company. At the time of its founding in 1907, it was one of three banks in the city, but mergers ultimately led to the amalgamation of both other firms under the Peoples Bank.</p><br>
<p>As Mount Vernons only bank, the Peoples Bank began running out of room in the mid-20th century. Finding the Barker Building for sale, the bank purchased it in 1967 and modified the two buildings by removing the walls that separated them, allowing the bank&#39;s main lobby to be a single room inside both buildings. Besides this modification, the two buildings remained much as they had been constructed into the late years of the 20th century.</p><br>
<h2>Recent history</h2><br>
<p>Due to the physical merger of the two buildings by People&#39;s Bank, architectural historians deemed the Barker and I.O.O.F. Buildings to have become one bank. Because of their historically significant architecture and the lack of changes (other than the physical merger) to the building(s) since construction, they were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in late 1985. Besides their historically important architecture, the two buildings also qualified for inclusion on the National Register because of their leading place in local history.</p><br>
<p>Despite their historic designation, the Barker and I.O.O.F. Buildings are no longer standing; the prosperity of the downtown business district led the bank that owned the buildings to destroy them in the 1990s and to erect a new bank building on the site. In 2003, much of downtown Mount Vernon was designated a historic district and listed on the National Register as the Mount Vernon Downtown Historic District. The site of the I.O.O.F. and Barker Buildings was included within the boundaries of the district, but due to the recent age of the new building on the site, it was deemed a non-contributing property. Despite their destruction, the Barker and I.O.O.F. Buildings remained on the National Register for more than a decade, like the surrounding downtown neighborhood and the courthouse square across the street. They were finally removed from the National Register on December 15, 2011.</p><br>
<p>El-Tod  was the site of an Ancient Egyptian town and a temple to the Egyptian god Monthu. It is located 20 km southwest of Luxor, Egypt, A modern village now surrounds the site.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The history of the site can be traced to the Old Kingdom period of Egyptian history. A granite pillar of the Fifth dynasty pharaoh, Userkaf, is the oldest object found at El-Tod. Evidence of Eleventh dynasty building is shown in the discovery of blocks bearing the names of Mentuhotep II and Mentuhotep III. Under Senusret I, these buildings were replaced with a new temple. Further additions to this temple were made under Ptolemy VIII.</p><br>
<h3>Culture</h3><br>
<p>Aside from Monthu, to whom a temple was dedicated, the Egyptian goddess Junit was of local importance. According to Flinders Petrie, the god of Tuphium was Hemen. As part of the Thebaid, the area also saw the worship of Sebak (Sobek), the Egyptian crocodile god.</p><br>
<h2>Remains</h2><br>
<h3>Tod Treasure</h3><br>
<p>In 1936, archaeologists digging at the temple location found in the support structures under the ruined building a number of metallic and lapis lazuli artifacts. The objects were made largely of silver. They were earmarked for some authorities of unknown origin and epoch, who are believed to have been of non-Egyptian origin. Nevertheless, the style of the objects resemble artifacts that were excacated in Knossos, which date to c. 1900–1700 BC. Yet, at Knossos such objects were made of clay, possibly imitating metal.</p><br>
<p>The initial discovery of four chests (inscribed with the name of pharaoh Amenemhat II Some gold artifacts are also part of the Treasure, and they may have originated from Anatolia. A similar conclusion is drawn on the origin of the silverware based on evidence obtained from relative analysis of the metallic constituents.</p><br>
<p>Objects that were found as part of the Treasure seem to have originated from various parts of the world, indicating trade contacts between the Ancient Egyptians and other early civilizations.</p><br>
<p>The total weight of all gold items was 6.98 kg, and of the silver items 8.87 kg. After discovery, the Treasure was divided between the Louvre Museum and the Egyptian Museum.</p><br>
<p>The Treur River  is a small river in the Drakensberg escarpment region of eastern Mpumalanga province, South Africa. The R532 motor route intersects it twice. Its ultimate origin is inside the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve, though most of its course is to the west of this protected area. It is a tributary of the Blyde River, and has no major tributaries of its own. There are two sharp drops in its course, at Poe Falls and Bourke&#39;s Luck Potholes respectively.</p><br>
<h2>Etymology</h2><br>
<p>Treur means "mourning" in Dutch, and was thus named during a voortrekker expedition. In 1844, while still under the misapprehension that Hendrik Potgieter and his party had perished on their journey to Delagoa Bay, their distraught relatives named the river near their encampment, Treurrivier, or mourning river.</p><br>
<p>Cameron Park is a historic neighborhood just west of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. It is one of three suburbs platted in the early 20th century. Development began along Hillsborough Street and moved north; a streetcar line along Hillsborough made the location especially appealing and convenient. Cameron Park&#39;s developers used restrictive deed covenants that set minimum house prices, created setbacks from the street, and excluded African Americans from living in the neighborhood . Advertisements for Cameron Park openly recruited socially ambitious upper-middle class residents to the neighborhood, and land and house values were significantly higher than those of other early suburbs.</p><br>
<p>The neighborhood is architecturally varied, featuring Queen Anne and Colonial Revivals, large bungalows, and more eclectic styles like Georgian Revival, Tudor Revival, and Mission Revival. Despite the stylistic variety, houses were uniformly large and upscale for the era. Cameron Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 as a national historic district. It encompasses 274 contributing buildings and was developed between about 1910 and 1935.</p><br>
<p>Ennore creek is a backwater located in Ennore, Chennai along the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. It is located in the zone comprising lagoons with salt marshes and backwaters, submerged under water during high tide and forming an arm of the sea with the opening to the Bay of Bengal at the creek. The zone is spread over an area of 4 km, and the creek covers an area of 2.25 km. It is located 20 km north of the city centre and 2.6 km south of the Ennore Port, and the creek area stretches 3 km into the sea and 5 km along the coast. The creek is nearly 400 m wide, elongated in northeast-southwest direction and merging with the backwater bodies. Once a flourishing mangrove swamp, the creek has been degraded to patches in the fringes mainly due to human activities in the region. The depth of the creek varies from 1 to 2 m and is shallow near the mouth. The north–south trending channels of the creek connect it with the Pulicat Lake to the north and to the distributaries of the Kosasthalaiyar River in the south. The northwestern part of the creek merges with the tidal flats. The soil in the region is of loamy and alluvial types. Most of the area consists of tracts of alluvial soil and the eastern region comprises beach dunes, tidal flats and creek. The creek is oriented from west to east and opens into the Bay of Bengal to the east at Ennore. The creek acts as an outlet for the excess water from the Poondi Reservoir. The creek separates the town of Ennore from the Ennore Port located in the north and the Kattupalli Shipyard located further north. The North Chennai Thermal Power Station is located at the north of the creek and the Ennore Thermal Power Station is located to the south. The creek is part of the Pulicat water system, including the Pulicat lagoon and the Buckingham Canal. As per the 1991 Coastal Regulation Zone notification, the entire Pulicat water system is designated CRZ I. The creek is experiencing siltation due to emergence of the Ennore Port.</p><br>
<h2>Ecology and drainage</h2><br>
<p>According to the Department of Environment, the zone covers an area of 6,469 acres of the creek identified as a tidal waterbody protected as a No-Development zone under CRZ-I regulations.</p><br>
<p>The region is drained by a couple of seasonal rivers, namely, Araniar River flowing in the north and Kosasthalaiyar River passing through the creek, fed chiefly by the northeast monsoon and the cyclonic storms of the eastern coast between October and December and, to a lesser extent, by the southwest monsoon. The annual rainfall is about 1200 mm per annum and the temperature ranges from 25 °C to 40 °C. The water flow is scanty during most part of the year with occasional floods in the event of cyclonic storms. These rivers, which are source for groundwater recharge in the region, support several lakes found in the area.</p><br>
<p>Both the rivers do not reach the sea directly but confluence in the brackish water bodies, mangroves situated at the fringes of the creek and the Buckingham Canal. The Kosasthalaiyar River drains into the Ennore backwaters reaching the sea through the creek. The littoral currents moving in a northerly direction for 9 months from February till October transport the sediments and deposit them few kilometres off shore and, in an area of emergence, these strands form strand plains.</p><br>
<p>The mean wind speed in the region is about 4.7 m/s. The flux-level changes vary from 0.4 to 6 m/s/m. Surface elevation ranges from 0.2 to 0.6 m. The current velocity at the creek varies from 0.08 to 0.16 m/s during flood tides and from 0.2 to 0.15 m/s during ebb tides. At the mouth, the current velocity towards the east reaches a maximum of 0.5 m/s during flooding and 0.3 m/s during ebbing conditions.</p><br>
<p>The mangrove region found in the estuarine area supports a number of wild lives. The creek is surrounded by fishing villages, croplands and aquaculture ponds. Salt manufacturing, lime shell quarrying and fishing remains the chief occupations of the region. The northern part of the creek is connected to the biodiversity-rich Pulicat lagoon through the Buckingham Canal.</p><br>
<h2>Pollution</h2><br>
<p>The creek receives wastewater from numerous sources including untreated wastewater and treated effluents from industrial sources in the surrounding area. Studies reveal that permitted discharges account for less than 40% of the total BOD load measured in the creek. Heavy metal concentrations are found to be higher near the creek mouth compared with the nearshore waters. Majority of heavy metal pollutants are likely to be present in a close proximity range of 0.5 km from the creek mouth after which there is a steady decline in their concentration up to 1.5 km.</p><br>
<p>In January 2017, a collision of two ships, Dawn Kanchipuram and BW Maple, at the Ennore Port resulted in an estimated 251.46 tonnes of oil spill.</p><br>
<h2>Developments</h2><br>
<p>In 2000, an artificial beach nourishment (to prevent downdrift erosion) was taken up by placing 3.5 × 10 m of sand dredged from the Ennore harbour basin and the approach channel through capital dredging.</p><br>
<p>A 670-m-long two-lane bridge is constructed on the creek by the Highway Department at a cost of 560 million, connecting Ennore High Road off the coastline with North Chennai Thermal Power Station at the northern end of the creek, with approach roads for about 1.7 km on either side of the Ennore High Road and near the thermal power station. The project, however, was proposed way back in 1997.</p><br>
<p>The Roanoke Park Historic District a national historic district located at Raleigh, North Carolina. It is one of the city’s historic Five Points neighborhoods and encompasses 446 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site. It is situated southeast of the Five Points intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Fairview and Whitaker Mill Roads. Roanoke Park is composed of six separate plats, filed from 1913 to 1926, and is roughly shaped like a diamond.</p><br>
<p>Architecturally, houses with American Craftsman detailing, such as bungalows and American Foursquares, constitute the majority of the neighborhood. However, some of the oldest houses in Five Points are located in Roanoke Park, and these homes employ more vernacular styles, including Greek Revival, side-gabled Triple-A cottages, and narrow shotgun houses, particularly along Sunrise Avenue.</p><br>
<p>Developers created the neighborhood’s namesake Roanoke Park subdivision in 1922. Its promoters appealed to white first-time homebuyers and boasted about the suburb&#39;s location next to Hayes Barton, an upper-class neighborhood also in Five Points. This section of the neighborhood centers on a park and includes the largest period revival houses.</p><br>
<p>Roanoke Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 as a Historic District.</p><br>
<p>The New Mexico Supreme Court Building is located in the city of Santa Fe, county of Santa Fe, in the USA state of New Mexico. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Santa Fe County, New Mexico in 2002.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Built in 1937 for $307,000, this Territorial Revival style public structure with hand-carved wood interiors was built by the Works Progress Administration. The state of New Mexico issued bonds of $175,000 to pay for its portion of the construction costs, and a tax of $2.50 was levied on each civil case docketed. During the Cold War in the 1950s, the building doubled as a fallout shelter.</p><br>
<h2>Renovations</h2><br>
<p>The original two elevators, and the additional third elevator added in the 1960s, have been upgraded to current standards. Over the</p><br>
<p>decades, piping and court seating were upgraded, as were the electrical and heating systems, water pipes, communications lines, and emergency/fire alarm system The building now has a digital telephone system. Structural and interior design renovations have brought the building up to date.</p><br>
<p>Platte Lake  is one of the many lakes located in the northwestern part of Michigan&#39;s lower peninsula. There are two lakes in Benzie County, Michigan based on the name Platte, the other being Little Platte. Platte Lake covers 2,516 acres and is 3.3 miles long and 1.6 miles wide. The average depth of Platte Lake is 24 feet deep. The deepest point of the lake is measured at 95 feet deep. The Platte River flows through the lake at a speed of 120 cubic feet per second. This means the residence time for the water in Platte Lake is 6 months. Also meaning that every hour 3.3 million gallons of water are passing through Platte Lake. The Platte River flows through Platte Lake and continues downstream through Loon Lake until it finally reaches Lake Michigan.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>Platte Lake is located in Benzie County, which was molded into a land full of sand dunes by the glacial formations. Along with the sand dunes, the glaciers also left many lakes in the area, not only in Benzie but throughout the area. Platte Lake is located at an elevation of 584 feet (178 meters) above sea level. Platte Lake is one of the largest of the lakes located in Benzie Michigan.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>Platte Lake is surrounded by sand dunes that were formed by glaciers and it is believed that these same glaciers also formed the many lakes in the Benzie area, not excluding Platte Lake. These sand dunes and glacial formations have since 1970 been protected under state law. The lakes bottom is filled with sand much like the sand that rolls over the massive dunes that overlook Lake Michigan and that make up Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.</p><br>
<h2>Lake environment</h2><br>
<p>Seagulls are extremely prevalent in the area, as well as various species of ducks and loons. Hawks and wild turkeys are often seen around the lake. Occasionally spotted is the bald eagle. In the water there are many types of fish as well as water turtles. Around the lake, white-tailed deer, bears, and red-tailed foxes can be found.</p><br>
<h3>Species of fish</h3><br>
<p>Platte Lake has many different species of fish. The types of fish include, small mouth and large mouth bass, rock bass, northern pike, walleye, brown bullhead, chinook salmon, strickbacks, bluegill and perch.</p><br>
<h3>Invasive species</h3><br>
<p>A foreign species of mussel, called the zebra mussel has over the past 20 years inhabited Platte Lake as well as many other lakes in the Great Lake area. These mussels help water clarity, but they are not native to the Northern Michigan area. They have been transported to North America by large vessels from Asia. They are a serious problem because they have nearly eliminated the native clam population in Platte Lake and many other bodies of water in the area.</p><br>
<h3>Climate</h3><br>
<p>The climate around the lake is pretty steady. Winters are dreadfully cold filled with a large amount of snow, and the summers are pretty warm but never too hot. During the winter the average low is 17 degrees F and the average high is 31 degrees F. In the summer the average low is 55 degrees F and the average high is 78 degrees F. It is not unusual for it to be extremely windy on and around the lake.</p><br>
<h2>Tourism</h2><br>
<p>Platte Lake is known for its vacation homes that are visible from every spot on the water. Benzie Michigan is extremely tourist oriented and is known for having a lot to do. There are many shops and restaurants not on the lake, but near the lake. You can go canoeing down Platte River. You are only minutes from the city of Frankfort, Michigan which is packed with cool shops, amazing restaurants and is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. There is also a pier, which you can walk out to view the spectacular lighthouse. Platte Lake is also minutes away from the most photographed lighthouse in Michigan, Point Betsie Light. Platte Lake is also near Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is an amazing mound of sand dunes that over look Lake Michigan from one side, and Glen Lake from the other. There are over a dozen golf courses in the area as well. The things to do in Benzie county are unlimited.</p><br>
<h3>Summer rentals</h3><br>
<p>There are an enormous amount of summer rental homes located on Platte Lake. Many people vacation there. During the summer tourists like to boat, water ski, wake board, tube, and sailboat on the water. Because Platte Lake is known for having such a variety of species of fish, fishing is also very popular on Platte Lake.</p><br>

<p>Vanguard Park Historic District is a national historic district located between Bloomsbury and Roanoke Park in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is one of Raleighs historic Five Points neighborhoods. Like Roanoke Park, its homes reflect the variety of popular architectural styles from the 1920s through the 1950s and are similar to those found in the nearby prestigious suburb of Hayes Barton, but are more modest in scale. Notably, the popular Colonial style was not used due to Vanguard Parks narrower lots.</p><br>
<p>Construction began in this district along its south and west edges in 1920 with modestly sized American Craftsman bungalows and front-gabled houses. Building slowed considerably during the Depression; homes built in the following years were one- and two-story houses in the Minimal Traditional style. During World War II construction stopped abruptly, only to rebound robustly during the post-war housing shortage. Nearly fifty houses went up in Vanguard Park between 1945 and 1952; Pine Avenue was filled with houses in a single year. Most of these early post-war houses continued to use the Minimal Traditional style.</p><br>
<p>The Gothic Revival style Westminster Presbyterian Church, formerly North Vanguard Church, is the sole institutional building in Vanguard Park.</p><br>
<p>Vanguard Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.</p><br>
<p>The Martin Bushnell House is a historic residence in the city of Mansfield, Ohio, United States. Built in 1892, the house was home to Martin Bushnell, a prominent civic leader, businessman, and politician, and it has been named a historic site.</p><br>
<h2>Bushnell</h2><br>
<p>Born in 1837, Martin Bushnell was a member of one of Richland County&#39;s oldest families; his ancestors were pioneers who arrived in 1820. His father William served three terms in the Ohio House of Representatives, and Martin himself served one term in the Ohio Senate, beginning in 1897. Before entering into public office, Bushnell attended Denison University and worked for a succession of Mansfield companies,</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>Bushnell&#39;s house is a Richardsonian Romanesque structure built primarily of stone: besides the various stone types composing the foundation and walls, the house features a slate roof and elements of granite. A large porch is placed at the front of the house, with a semicircular bow window above the porch and a two-story octagonal tower to the side. The roofs are of various types: that of the tower rises to a steep point, while other sections are gabled. Vertical elements include numerous chimneys, placed at widely separated points on the roofline, as well as the paired columns that support the porch roof. Small oculi are built into several sides of the tower, above the second-story windows, while a semicircular window in the front gable overlooks the roof of the bow window. These elements combine to convey a sense of sheer mass, typical of houses built in the Richardsonian Romanesque style.</p><br>
<h2>Preservation</h2><br>
<p>In 1974, the Bushnell House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One of more than ninety locations with this designation in Richland County, it qualified both because of its architecture and because of its place as the home of a prominent local resident.</p><br>
<p>Château de Puyguilhem, also called Puyguilhem Castle, is a château in the commune of Villars in north of the Dordogne, France. Built between 1514 and 1535, the Renaissance style castle like that of the Loire castles was classified as a historical monument in 20 March 1912 and the grounds, woods, and outskirts were registered in 19 May 1945. It is owned by the state of France. It is open to the public.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The construction of the castle of Puyguilhem began in 1514, sponsored by Mondot de La Marthonie, first president of the Parliament of Paris. A close friend of Francis I of France and lawyer to the king&#39;s mother Louise of Savoy, he administered the kingdom when the king went to war. The modest castle was built as a secondary residence and hunting lodge for La Marthonie and its layout is fitting for a nobleman of the time.</p><br>
<p>Formerly protected by defensive works, it now consists a main house flanked by two towers and a turret of stairs. The first of two stages of construction was completed in 1524, which included the foundations, part of the corner tower and the hexagonal turret. The second stage was completed in 1535. Its design oscillates between two epochs, medieval and renaissance. Several elements recall the Gothic style of the Middle Ages, while the additions made in the second phase of construction are like the Loire castles. The park contains a dovecote.</p><br>
<p>The castle fell into ruin and in 1939 the state of France took ownership and restored the building. Since February 2008, it has been managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux (Center of National Monuments).</p><br>
<p>The Neuné is a river which flows in the Vosges department of France. It is a right tributary of the Vologne, and therefore a sub-tributary of the Moselle.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The Neuné rises within the commune of Gerbépal in the parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges, which also contains a part of its length. It flows first to the north-west, then towards the west, and finally towards the south-west where it joins the right bank of the Vologne, at the level of the small settlement of Champ-le-Duc. The Neunés principal tributary is the BHeumey, which joins with it in the commune of Chapelle-Devant-Bruyères.</p><br>
<h2>Communes on the course of the Neuné</h2><br>
<p>The Neuné flows through the following communes, from upstream to downstream: Gerbépal, Corcieux, La Houssière, Biffontaine, les Poulières, la Chapelle-devant-Bruyères, Laveline-devant-Bruyères and Champ-le-Duc in the Vosges department.</p><br>
<p>Nonetheless the communauté de communes du Val de Neuné grouping includes a slightly different set of communes: Gerbépal, Corcieux, Arrentès-de-Corcieux, La Houssière, Biffontaine, les Poulières, la Chapelle-devant-Bruyères, Vienville.</p><br>
<h2>Hydrology</h2><br>
<p>Le Neuné is a substantial river. Its flow rate has been measured over a 22-year period (1986–2007) at Laveline-devant-Bruyères, which is slightly away from its confluence with the Vologne. The drainage surface studied is 94 km&sup2, or 97 percent of the total watershed of the river.</p><br>
<p>The average interannual flow rate, or discharge of the river at Laveline-devant-Bruyères is 2.22 m3/s.</p><br>
<p>The Neuné exhibits moderate seasonal fluctuations in flow rate. The high-water period occurs in the winter season, with average monthly instantaneous flow rates varying between 2.63 and from November to March inclusive, with an overall maximum in March and a secondary maximum in January. From April onwards, the flow rate drops off quickly and continues until the low-water period, which occurs from July to September, with minimum monthly average instantaneous flow rate going down to 0.833 m3/s in August, still a comfortable flow for a small river. Fluctuations in flow rate can be more significant from year to year and over short time periods.</p><br>
<p>At low water, the three-year low instantaneous flow rate can drop to 0.25 m3/s in the case of a dry five-year period, or about 250 l/s, which is not too severe.</p><br>
<p>As for floods, they can also substantial, considering the relatively small watershed. The Instananeous Maximum Flow Rate over 2 years (IMFR2) and the IMFR5 are 21 and respectively. The IMFR10 is 32 m3/s and the IMFR20 is 37 m3/s, while the IMFR50 has not been calculated due to an insufficient history of measurements. The volumes of the Neuné&#39;s floods rise to as much as 30 percent of those of the Vologne.</p><br>
<p>The maximum instantaneous flow rate recorded at Laveline-devant-Bruyères during this period was 36.3 m3/s on 30 December 2001, while the maximum daily average flow rate was 32.6 m3/s on 4 October 2006. Comparing the first of these numbers with the different IMFR measurements of the river suggests that this flood was of the order of a 20-year event.</p><br>
<p>The Neuné is a substantial river. The runoff curve number in its watershed is 746 mm annually, which is over twice the overall average of France with all basins taken together, and clearly greater than the average of the French basin of the Moselle, which is 445 mm downstream of Metz). The specific flow rate of the river attaches a solid number to this fact: 23.6 litres per second per square kilometre of basin.</p><br>
<p>Engine Company Number Nine Firehouse, also known as the Arbor Street Firehouse, is an historic former firehouse at 17 Arbor street in the North Deering neighborhood of Portland, Maine. It was constructed in 1902-03, shortly after Deering was annexed to Portland. It was built to reflect Portlands commitment to the newly annexed suburb as well as due to the citys switch to a paid fire department. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in October 2010. It now houses a commercial business.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former Arbor Street Firehouse is located on the north side of Arbor Street, just west of Forest Avenue (United States Route 302), a major artery to downtown Portland, and south of a cluster of road and rail interchanges known as Deering Junction. The building is a 2-1/2 story brick structure, and is three bays wide with a stepped-back fourth bay on the right side. The first floor of the main bays are taken up by equipment bays with two-leaf swinging doors, while the recessed side bay has a pedestrian entrance, sheltered by a gabled porch. The second floor bays have sash windows, the central bay of the three with a pair of them. A wall dormer rises above the central bay, with a group of three smaller sash windows.</p><br>
<p>The location where the firehouse stands was originally part of Westbrook, and was incorporated as part of the city of Deering in 1892. Deering was then a predominantly residential area, with many of its residents working in Portland. In 1899 it was annexed to Portland, greatly expanding that citys geography. After the annexation, the citys fire department embarked on a plan to update, modernize, and professionalize its force, equipment, and facilities. The Arbor Street station was built in 1902 as part of this process, functionally replacing a nearby wood-frame firehouse that had been built by the city of Deering. At the time of its construction, the equipment was still horse-drawn, and there would have been stables behind the main station. This station housed Engine Number 9 and Ladder Number 4 until 1972, when they moved to a new station on Forest Avenue.</p><br>
<p>Lake Burigi  is an endorheic lake in the Karagwe district, Kagera Region of Tanzania. Parts of the lake and its shore are situated within the Burigi Game Reserve.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Visited by Dr. Hans Meyers East African expedition, its name on maps of the time was Urigi. The lakes discovery is attributed to Capt. John Hanning Speke, who name it Lueor-lo-Urigi ("White Lake of Urigi").</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The lake is 18 km long and 4 km wide. It has an elongated shape, the greatest distance between the two extremities being about 30 km. It is so narrow that from one side, the other can always clearly be seen. The lake&#39;s water is bright azure in color.</p><br>
<p>Its area measures approximately 7,000 hectare. Fed by rivers from surrounding hills, the largest is Ruiza River. The lake is visible from Useni or Kavari. Papyrus swamps and groundwater forest areas occur around the lake. The surrounding hills are brown, with dark green bush scatterings.Its receding waters have left great extents of flat plain on the sides and around the bays running far inland into valleys. The lake is sunk about 1,200 ft below the average level of the bare grassy hills around it. There is a narrow basin at the head of the lake. Its shore is broken by numerous inlets.</p><br>
<p>The Yanghiro district, which is situated on the eastern shore of the Urigi, is a hilly region, scattered over with villages and cultivated fields, as well as with woods of banana-trees.</p><br>
<h2>Flora and fauna</h2><br>
<p>Its shores and waters are favored by birds, such as cranes, herons, pelicans, African jacanas, egrets and waders, which find excellent feeding over the large spaces near the extremities and shore line of bays. These are covered with close-packed growths of Pistia stratiotes rigl plants. Kobus ellipsiprymnus and Hippopotamus amphibius frequent the area. There are armies of black mosquitoes. Lake fish were infested with guinea worm at the time of Stanley&#39;s expedition.</p><br>
<p>The Cleurie or rupt de Cleurie is a river in the Lorraine in France, which flows in the Vosges department. It is a right tributary of the Moselotte, and thus a sub-tributary of the Rhine, via the Moselotte and the Moselle.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The Cleurie rises in the massif des Vosges, within the commune of Gérardmer from the confluence of two streams, the Corsaire and the Noir Rupt. It receives Liézey stream on its right, flows through Le Tholy, follows La Forge, Le Syndicat and Cleurie, then flows into the right bank of the Moselotte at Saint-Amé.</p><br>
<p>Its name is found in the denomination of the Communauté de communes de la Vallée de la Cleurie.</p><br>
<h2>Hydrology</h2><br>
<p>The flow rate of the Cleurie river has been measured at Cleurie over 38 years from 1967 to 2007. The measurement station is 5 km from the river&#39;s confluence with the Moselotte. The watershed of the river there is 68 km&sup2, or about 88 percent of that at its mouth.</p><br>
<p>The river&#39;s average interannual flow rate or discharge at Cleurie is 2.39 m3/s.</p><br>
<p>The Cleurie river exhibits moderate seasonal variation in flow rate. High water occurs at the end of autumn and in winter, and are typified by monthly average instantaneous flow rates of between 2.82 and, from November to March inclusive, with a maximum in December and January. Low water occurs in spring, from July to September inclusive, with a minimum monthly average flow rate of 1.02 m3/s in August. These monthly averages, however, hide more pronounced short-term variations, especially since the flow rate varies from year to year.</p><br>
<p>At low water, the 3-year low instantaneous flow rate can drop to 0.290 m3/s, or 290 l/s, which is hardly very severe.</p><br>
<p>Floods can be very significant for a small river endowed with a minimal basin. The maximum instantaneous flow rates over a 2-year and 5-year period (MIFR2 and MIFR5) measure 27 and respectively. The MIFR10 measures 41 m3/s, the MIFR20 measures 47 m3/s and the MIFR50 measures 54 m3/s. These numbers correspond to about a third of the flooding flow rates of the Moselotte.</p><br>
<p>The maximum instaneous flow rate ever recorded at Cleurie over the entire period for which measurements exist was 51.7 m3/s on 25 January 1995, while the maximum ever recorded daily average value was 33.3 m3/s the same day. Comparing these values with the scale of the MIFR&#39;s listed above suggests that the floods of January 1995 were almost of the order of IMFR50 and quite exceptional, and that a flood of that size should occur on average once every 40 years.</p><br>
<p>All in all, the Cleurie is a very significant river. The runoff curve number in its watershed is 1,114 mm annually, which is more than three times higher than the overall average of France, and substantially more than the average of the whole French Moselle basin measured at 225 mm downstream of Metz. The specific flow rate is very high at 35.2 litres per second per square kilometre of basin.</p><br>
<p>Lake Jipe is an inter-territorial lake straddling the borders of Kenya and Tanzania. On the Kenyan side, it is located south of the village of Nghonji while on the Tanzanian side, it is situated within Mwanga District, in Kilimanjaro Region. The lake is fed mainly by the Lumi River, which descends from Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as streams from the North Pare Mountains, being on the leeward side. The lakes outlet forms the Ruvu River. Kenyas unfenced Tsavo West National Park protects part of the lakes northern shore, while on the Tanzania side Mkomazi Game Reserve is nearby. The lake is known for its endemic fish, as well as water birds, mammals, wetland plants and lake-edge swamps, which can extend 2 km from Jipes shore.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The lake is accessible via the B1 Highway from the village of Kifaru, about 40 km south of the Tanzanian town of Moshi. Jipe covers an area of roughly 30 km&sup2, Mount Kilimanjaro&#39;s Kibo Peak is viewable from the lake.</p><br>
<h2>Demographics</h2><br>
<p>Some 120,000 people depend on the lake for their livelihood. The inhabitants of villages surrounding Lake Jipe are mainly involved in fishing, agriculture and animal husbandry. To the south-east of the great mountain is the little agricultural colony of Taveta. Ki-taveta is the language used by the Bantu half of the population, and Maasai is the language of the remainder. Ki-gweno is the dialect of the Ugweno mountains (Ugono) to the south of Lake Jipe. Lake water is used for irrigation of the surrounding farmlands.</p><br>
<h2>Fauna</h2><br>
<p>The probability of long-time isolation from other wetlands is suggested by a fish endemic to the lake, the Jipe tilapia. Jipe&#39;s waters are teeming with big fish, principally siluriforms and cyprinoids. Jipe forms a biodiversity rich ecosystem also known for the water birds that frequent its reedy shores; these include storks, egrets, pelicans, spur-winged plovers, ducks, and Egyptian geese. Lesser jacana and the purple gallinule are common on the lake despite being rare in other parts of Africa and Madagascar squacco heron, black heron, African darter and African skimmers are often seen. The vicinity of the lake is frequented by herds of game. Hippopotami and crocodiles are plentiful.</p><br>
<p>The Moselotte is a river in Lorraine, in the French department of Vosges. It is a direct right tributary of the Moselle, and thus a sub-tributary of the Rhine.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The Moselotte rises in the massif des Vosges at the fontaine de la Duchesse, near the summit of Hohneck. It flows into the Moselle at Remiremont. Its length is 47 km, while its watershed is 356 km&sup2;.</p><br>

<p>The Moselotte flows through, from upstream to downstream, the communes of La Bresse, Cornimont, Saulxures, Thiéfosse, Vagney, Saint-Amé, Le Syndicat, Dommartin-lès-Remiremont and Saint-Étienne-lès-Remiremont opposite the town of Remiremont.</p><br>

<h3>Lakes</h3><br>
<p>The Moselotte watershed includes numerous natural lakes which are often enhanced by a small barrage, including lac de Blanchemer, lac de Lispach and lac des Corbeaux.</p><br>
<p>The presence of a high barrage at the foot of Kastelberg since 1983 has resulted in the appearance of the lac de la Lande. It collects water from several sources via conduits, and supplies the La Bresse commune with its energy.</p><br>
<p>At the entry downstream of Saulxures, a lake of 9.6 hectare was set up in 1998 under the name lac de la Moselotte which hosts a leisure center.</p><br>
<h3>Hydrology - at Vagney station</h3><br>
<p>Like the majority of Vosges rivers, the Moselotte is very substantial. Its flow rate has been observed during a period of 40 years Vagney at a place called Zainvilliers, which is upstream of the Moselottes confluence with the Moselle. The rivers watershed at this point is 187 km&sup2; or 53 percent of its entire watershed, corresponding to the upper half of its course.</p><br>
<p>The average interannual flow rate, or discharge at Vagney is 8.54 m3/s.</p><br>
<p>The Moselotte exhibits quite marked seasonal fluctuations, with a winter-spring period of high water whose monthly average flow rate is between 10.8 and from November to April inclusive, with a maximum in December. From the beginning of May, the flow rate falls off rapidly, reaching 3.06 m3/s in August, which is not very severe for a body of water of this size. However year by year fluctuation can be more significant, as can those in the short term.</p><br>

<p>Floods can also be significant particularly bearing in mind the smallness of the watershed, only 187 km&sup2;. The maximum instantaneous flow rates over a 2-year and 5-year period (MIFR2 and MIFR5) measure 97 and respectively. The MIFR10 is 120 m3/s, the MIFR20 is 130 m3/s, while the MIFR50 rises to 150 m3/s.</p><br>
<p>The maximum instantaneous flow rate recorded at Vagney was 121 m3/s on 15 February 1990, while the maximum daily average flow rate was 108 m3/s on the same day. Comparing these values to the MIFR measurements for the river suggests that the flood on that day was approximately a 10-year event and thus likely to recur frequently.</p><br>
<p>Overall the Moselotte is an extremely abundant river in its upper course. The runoff curve number in this 53 percent of its watershed is 1,445 mm annually, which is extremely high for the northern part of France, and more than four times higher than the French national average. It is also three times higher than the average over the French basin of the Moselle. The specific flow rate attaches to these facts the portentous figure of 45.7 litres per second per square kilometre of watershed.</p><br>
<h3>Hydrology - at the confluence with the Moselle</h3><br>
<p>The interannual flow rate/discharge of the Moselotte at its confluence with the Moselle is 13.7 m3/s, for a watershed of 356 km&sup2;. The runoff curve number in its watershed is 1,214 mm, which is very high indeed, not merely much higher than the average for France (by more than a factor of three) with all basins included, but also much higher than the average for the French Moselle basin. In fact, the runoff curve number at Hauconcourt, located slightly downstream of the town of Metz, near where it leaves French territory, rises to 445 mm. The specific flow rate of the Moselotte rises to 38.5 litres per second per square kilometre of watershed. This, along with the Breuchin (a tributary of the Lanterne and sub-tributary of the Saône which flows elsewhere in the same region) constitutes a record for the north third of France.</p><br>
<p>The Moselotte is clearly more abundant than the Moselle at their confluence, 13.7 m3/s against 9.3 m3/s.</p><br>
<h2>Water quality</h2><br>
<p>While in 2005, the water quality of the Moselotte was classified as category 1B, or "bonne" (good), the situation deteriorated somewhat in 2006, when the Rhine-Meuse water agency concluded that the river water analysed at the level of Autrive was now only "passable", or category 2. The reason was a highly depressed rate of oxygen saturation (also classed as "passable"), which had gone from 76% in 2005 to 69% in 2006. The chemical oxygen demand, at 6.5 mg/l in 2006, was still classified "bonne". The ammonium ion level was measured at 0.09 mg/l, which was classed as "excellent".</p><br>
<h2>Economy</h2><br>
<p>Highly populated by trout, the river has given rise to a significant breakthrough in fish farming, namely the invention of artificial reproduction by Joseph Remy and Antoine Géhin in the 19th century. The Moselotte basin also has the highest density in the world in small hydroelectric barrages, which serve the watermills, sawmills, spinning and weaving houses along the river and its tributaries.</p><br>
<p>A railway line once ran along the Moselotte valley between Remiremont and Cornimont. Today it has been transformed into a voie verte (green route) and replaced with bus service provided by TER Lorraine (line 9), extended to La Bresse.</p><br>
<p>Canyon Island is an island in the City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska, United States. Located in the Taku River, it is 2.5 mi northeast of the mouth of the Wright River and 32 mi northeast of the city of Juneau. The name was first reported by the United States Geological Survey in 1960, collected between 1976 and 1981, and entered into the Geographic Names Information System on March 31, 1981.</p><br>
<p>The island is 0.8 mi across.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Taku people previously lived on the island. A radio station operated by Pacific Alaska Airways was located on the island as of the 1930s.</p><br>
<p>The Alaska Department of Fish and Game operated a research station on the island. Fish wheels are present on the island for the study of salmon.</p><br>
<p>Ashleigh is a Greek Revival style house located in Fauquier County near Delaplane, Virginia. The one-story house was built in 1840 for Margaret Marshal, the granddaughter of John Marshall on a portion of the family&#39;s Oak Hill estate (not to be confused with the nearby James Monroe House named Oak Hill</p><br>
<p>The house was designed by Margaret Marshall and built by a man named Sutton. Margaret married John Thomas Smith in 1845 and they lived at Ashleigh until 1860. That year the house was sold to another relative, Gray Carroll.The property was sold by Carroll to Samuel P. Bayly in 1870. The house passed through a number of owners, with Dr. Edmund Horgan renovating the house in 1929. Horgan obtained pine paneling that had been removed from the White House during renovation work and installed it in the lower southeast room.</p><br>
<p>The house is one story with three bays flanked by one-story two-bay wings on either side. The sloping site makes the basement a full story on the south side of the main and west wings. The house is built of stone covered with stucco. A Greek Doric portico is centered on the main facade. An entrance hall extends across the front with a parlor behind. Halls extend into the center of each wing down a flight of three steps, with two rooms on either side. The garden features a boxwood hedge.</p><br>
<p>Ashleigh was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 14, 1973.</p><br>
<p>Coghlan Island is an island in the City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska, United States. Located in Stephens Passage, it is 1.2 mi south of Fairhaven and 11 mi northwest of the city of Juneau. It was named in 1885 by the USA Coast and Geodetic Survey for United States Navy officer Joseph Coghlan, who commanded the USS Adams during its survey of southeastern Alaska from 1883 to 1884. The name was collected by the United States Geological Survey between 1976 and 1981, and entered into the Geographic Names Information System on March 31, 1981.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Former Alaska state legislator Bruce Weyhrauch was stranded on Coghlan Island on April 22, 2007, after he fell out of his boat at about 6:00 PM that night; he was forced to swim to the island. The United States Coast Guard District Seventeen, Sector Juneau, searched for Weyhrauch during the night. A volunteer rescue team from the nonprofit organization located him at approximately 11:00 AM on April 23.</p><br>
<p>A Federal Aviation Administration non-directional radio beacon is located on the island. It transmits the Morse code callsign CGL on a frequency of 212 kHz.</p><br>
<h2>Notable flora and fauna</h2><br>
<p>Coghlan Island was noted as the northernmost location of specimens of Triopha catalinae, a type of sea slug.</p><br>
<p>Jinfo Shan , the highest peak of Dalou Mountains, located in the upper reach of the Yangtze River, is situated in Nanchuan District, the Municipality of Chongqing. Jinfo Shan is an isolated mountain with cliffs up to 300 m surrounding its relatively flat top. Its major vegetation types include subtropical broadleaf forest, coniferous forests and subalpine meadow. Besides typical karst topography of gorges, stone forests and cave systems, Jinfo Shan is well known for its exceptional plant diversity of 4768 seed plants.</p><br>
<p>It is also a refuge to endangered animals confined to karst regions such as Francois Langur Trachypithecus francoisi. With its outstanding karst features and superb biodiversity, Jinfo Shan has been listed as a tentative World Heritage site since 2001.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>Mt. Jinfo is a syncline mountain. The platform and terrace are composed of Permian limestone in the upper part with about 2000m a.s.l. In the meanwhile, karst geomorphologies in large scale on the surface or underground are found. The shale and sandstone of Silurian lay in the middle of Jinfo from 1000m to 1500m asl. The low part of Jinfo is supported by the limestone and dolomite of Cambrian and Ordovician. Plenty of small- and microforms of karst are formed in this area. There are many cliffs and gorges in Jinfo Mt., the north slope is steep and the south slope is slight. The geomorphology of the Jinfo can be divided into two types:</p><br>
<p>Gorge in the low part of Jinfo Mt. whose elevation is about 800-1200m asl and relative height about 500m. It formed by water down cutting and eroding.</p><br>
<p>Platform of Mid-mountain distributes the area above 1200m asl of Jinfo Mt., Bozhi Mt. and Qingba Mt. The relative height is 500-1000m. The way of the mountain extension is identical to the tectonic line. The top of the Mts. is a relic erosional basis.</p><br>
<h2>Climate</h2><br>
<p>It is in the subtropical humid monsoon zone with annual mean temperature of 8.2 °C and precipitation of 1,434.5 mm on the top of the mountain.</p><br>
<p>Freycinet Island is a small island  in Henri Freycinet Harbour, lying off the Carrarang peninsula in the southern part of Shark Bay, on the-west coast of Western Australia. It is an elevated limestone plateau with scree slopes, vegetated with nitre bush shrubland.</p><br>
<h2>Birds</h2><br>
<p>Freycinet Island is one component of the Quoin Bluff and Freycinet Island Important Bird Area (IBA), identified as such by BirdLife International because it holds an important nesting colony of pied cormorants. Together with a similar colony on Quoin Bluff some 80 km to the north-west, it supports between 5000 and 10,000 birds - over 1% of the world population of the species. Small numbers of wedge-tailed shearwaters and silver gulls also nest on the island, and rock parrots have been recorded there.</p><br>
<p>The Camden Free Public Library Main Building is the first former main library of the Camden, New Jersey public library system. Designed by Herbert D. Hale and Henry G. Morse, the building was constructed with a grant from the Carnegie Corporation and opened in 1905. It closed in 1986 with the relocation of the library&#39;s main branch to the former South Jersey Gas, Electric and Traction Company Office Building. In 1992, the building was placed on the state and national registers of historic places. The building has fallen into state of serious disrepair. In 2003, funding was found for its stabilization, with the hope that it would be preserved and re-used.</p><br>
<p>The city&#39;s once extensive library system has been beleaguered by financial difficulties. In 2010, it threatened to close but was incorporated by the county library system. Nonetheless, the main branch did close in February 2011.</p><br>
<p>St. Benedict Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral in Evansville, Indiana, United States. It is the seat of the Diocese of Evansville. The cathedral is a contributing property to the Lincolnshire Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.</p><br>

<h3>St. Benedict Parish</h3><br>
<p>St. Benedict Parish was established in 1912 and the pastoral care for the parish was given to Benedictine Monks from St. Meinrad Abbey. The present church building was completed in 1928 in the Lombard-Basilica style. It was dedicated March 18, 1928, by Abbot Athanasius Schmidt, OSB. The cathedral features ceilings that are 65 feet (19.8 m) high, a baldachin over the altar and a seating capacity of over 1,000 people.</p><br>
<p>The church was renovated after the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council. The baldachin was moved forward about 25 feet (7.6 m) and the former high altar was dismantled and new altar was created. Two of Evansville’s bishops were ordained and installed in St. Benedict’s before it became a cathedral; Francis R. Shea in 1970 and Gerald A. Gettelfinger on April 11, 1989.</p><br>
<p>Most of the other parish buildings are older than the cathedral church. The convent was completed in 1913 and the older school building the following year. The rectory was built 1921-1922. The newer school building opened in 1953.</p><br>
<h3>St. Benedict Cathedral</h3><br>
<p>On October 21, 1944, Pope Pius XII established the Diocese of Evansville. Assumption Church, Evansville’s oldest Catholic parish, was chosen as the first cathedral. The property was sold to the city of Evansville who demolished it in 1965 for the new civic center. Holy Trinity, Evansville’s second oldest parish, served as the Proto-cathedral from 1965 to April 11, 1999, when St. Benedict&#39;s was consecrated as the third cathedral for the Evansville Diocese.</p><br>

<p>The Lindheimer House is located in the city of New Braunfels, county of Comal, in the USA state of Texas. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Comal County, Texas in 1970, and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1936. The house is currently owned and run as a museum by the New Braunfels Conservation Society.</p><br>
<h2>Ferdinand Lindheimer</h2><br>
<p>Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer (1801–1879) was known as the father of Texas Botany. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Lindheimer emigrated to the United States in 1834 to escape persecution resulting from his political activities. After military participation in Texas, Lindheimer moved to St. Louis, Missouri to partner in botanical research with George Engelmann and Asa Gray. His research brought him in touch with John O. Meusebach, after which Lindheimer moved back to Texas where he spent the rest of his life.</p><br>
<h2>Saltbox house</h2><br>
<p>Lindheimer built his timber-framed house in 1852, in the saltbox style, with the roof at the back of his house sloping lower than the roof at the front of the house. Stucco covers the fachwerk totally on three sides of Lindheimers house, but leaves it exposed in the back. A popular architecture style in New England, the saltbox house was also utilized among German immigrants in Texas. Rather than a full second story, Lindheimers house has a loft as the second story. A centralized chimney heats the home. The front of the house has two transomed, paneled doors. In 1853, Lindheimer became the editor of the Die Neu Braunfels Zeitung, and published it out of his home for the next two decades, converting the rear of his house into a print shop. The New Braunfels Conservation Society operates the house as a museum.</p><br>
<p>Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The parish’s origins date to 1837, when it was first named Holy Cross parish. In 1850 it was renamed Saint John the Evangelist parish, and is the oldest Catholic parish in the city and in Marion County, Indiana. Considered the mother of the Catholic parishes in Indianapolis, it played an important role in development of the Catholic Church in the city. Saint Johns Church served as the pro-cathedral of the diocese from 1878 until 1906; its rectory served as the bishops residence and chancery from 1878 until 1892. In 1900 the church served as the site of first episcopal consecration held in Indianapolis.</p><br>
<p>Although many considered Saint Johns a diocesan cathedral, it was never officially named as such. Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral remained the official cathedral and Vincennes, Indiana, as the see city for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Vincennes, Indiana, until March 28, 1898, when the episcopal see was transferred to Indianapolis and became the Diocese of Indianapolis. Diocesan functions continued to be held at Saint Johns until Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral was built in 1906. Saint Johns rectory continued to house the diocesan chancery until 1968, and served as the metropolitan tribunal for the diocese until 1982. Saint Johns Church and rectory were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.</p><br>

Bohlens son, Oscar, designed the twin spires and supervised their construction in 1893. The red-brick church has an eclectic style, including elements of French Gothic Revival and American Romanesque Revival architecture. The sanctuary has a seating capacity of 3,000. It was the largest church in Indiana when the cornerstone was laid in 1867; it was dedicated on July 2, 1871.</p><br>

<h3>Saint Johns parish</h3><br>
<p>Holy Cross parish, the predecessor to Saint John the Evangelist, is the oldest Catholic parish in Indianapolis and in Marion County, Indiana. It is considered the mother of the Catholic parishes in Indianapolis, and played an important role in development of the Catholic Church in the city. The parishs origins date to 1837, when Father Vincent Bacquelin held the first regularly celebrated mass in Indianapolis at a local tavern. Father Bacquelin founded Holy Cross parish in November 1837 after the Diocese of Vincennes purchased a lot for the parishs first church on the northwest corner of Washington and California Streets, just south of Military Park. The new frame church, which measured about 40 ft by 24 ft, was known as the Chapel of the Holy Cross. The first mass was held in the church on October 11, 1840.</p><br>
<p>In 1846 Bishop Célestine de la Hailandière purchased three lots on Georgia Street, where it intersects Tennessee Street (present-day Capitol Avenue), for $2,300. The lots served as the site for a cluster of new buildings that would be built for the parish. In 1850 a new brick church measuring 80 ft by 40 ft was built on the center lot facing south on Georgia Street, adjacent to the site of the present-day rectory. Father John Guéguen, the parish pastor at the time, changed the name of the parish to Saint John the Evangelist when the new church was completed. (Saint John the Evangelist was Father Bacquelin&#39;s patron saint.)</p><br>
<p>Father Bacquelins successor, Augustus Bessonies, served as pastor at Saint Johns from 1857 to 1890, when the parish expanded to include a new church, rectory, and school buildings on Georgia Street. In 1859 a new parish school was constructed at the corner of Georgia and Tennessee Streets (present-day Capitol Avenue) to house Saint Johns Academy, the citys first Catholic school. Founded by the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, the school opened in September 1859. It remained at the site until Saint Johns Academy for Girls opened at 135 West Maryland Street in January 1874. The Georgia Street school building was later demolished. Saint Johns Academy on Maryland Street closed in 1959, and the building was demolished. In 1863 the parish built a new rectory adjacent to Saint Johns Church, and in 1867 a three-story brick school for boys. The Brothers of the Sacred Heart operated the school until 1929, and the building was later demolished.</p><br>
<p>Construction on the present-day Saint Johns Church began in April 1867, and the main building was completed in 1871. (Due to the expense the twin spires were not added until 1893.) In the early 1870s, when the Bishop of Vincennes, Jacques Maurice de St. Palais, visited Indianapolis, he resided at Saint Johns rectory and used the church as his proto-cathedral. Although the bishop considered making Indianapolis the episcopal see of the Diocese of Vincennes, he deferred the decision to Silas Chatard, his successor.</p><br>
<p>Saint Johns served as the proto-cathedral of the diocese from 1878, when Bishop Silas Chatard established his residence and chancery there, until 1906, when Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral was built in Indianapolis. Although Bishop St. Palais temporarily resided at Saint Johns when he visited Indianapolis, his successor, Bishop Chatard, formally obtained permission from Pope Leo XIII to establish the bishops residence at Indianapolis. After Chatards consecration as Bishop of Vincennes on May 12, 1878, in Rome, Italy, he traveled to Indiana and arrived in Indianapolis on August 17, 1878. Within a month after his arrival in the city, Bishop Chatard commissioned noted Indianapolis architect Diedrich A. Bohlen, principal and founder of the architectural firm of D. A. Bohlen and Son, to design an addition to Saint Johns rectory that would service as the bishops residence and house the diocesan chancery. The rectory addition served as the bishops residence from August 1878 until April 18, 1892, when Bishop Chatard moved into the newly built rectory at Fourteenth and Meridian Streets in the Saint Peter and Paul parish.</p><br>
<p>When Bishop Chatard moved to Indianapolis in 1878, many considered Saint Johns as a diocesan cathedral, but it was never officially named as such. Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral remained the official cathedral and Vincennes, Indiana, as the see city for the Diocese of Vincennes until March 28, 1898, when Pope Leo XIII officially transferred the episcopal see to Indianapolis and it became the Diocese of Indianapolis. Because Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, the new cathedral for the Diocese of Indianapolis, was not built until 1906, diocesan functions continued to be held at Saint Johns Church in the interim. Bishop Chatard called four diocesan synods (in 1878, 1880, 1886, and 1891) during his residency at Saint Johns. Some functions remained at Saint Johns even longer. Its rectory continued to house the diocesan chancery until 1968, and it served as the metropolitan tribunal for the diocese until 1982.</p><br>
<p>Father Bessonies&#39;s successor, Monsignor Francis H. Gavisk became vicar general for the Diocese of Indianapolis and was Saint Johns pastor from 1890 to 1932. He continued work to complete the church in 1893. On May 12, 1903, Bishop Chatard celebrated his Silver Episcopal Jubilee with a Pontifical High Mass at Saint Johns. The celebration marked the last significant diocesan event at the church.</p><br>
<p>The church was restored for its centennial anniversary in 1971.</p><br>
<h3>Church and rectory construction</h3><br>
<p>Saint Johns Church is the main structure in a cluster of parish buildings on the southwest corner of Georgia Street and Capitol Avenue. Construction of these building was completed in phases. Diedrich A. Bohlen designed the rectory (1863), the present-day Saint Johns Church (1867&ndash;71), and bishops residence/rectory addition (1878). (Other D. A. Bohlen-designed buildings related to the parish include Saint Johns school for boys (1867), across the alley from the rectory, and the Saint Johns Academy for Girls (1872&ndash;74), on nearby Maryland Street.) Bohlens son, Oscar, designed the twin spires on the two towers that flank the main facade and supervised their construction. The Bohlen-designed red-brick, two-story rectory (1863), which predates the present-day church, faces south on Georgia Street.</p><br>
<p>Construction on the present-day church, the second one on the Georgia Street site, began in 1867. Funds from private donors and parish fund-raising efforts paid for construction of the church, which cost an estimated $120,000 at the time it was built. Unlike the first church on the site, which faced Georgia Street, the present-day church faces west on Capitol Avenue. Bishop St. Palais laid the cornerstone on July 21, 1867. John B. Purcell, Archbishop of Cincinnati, dedicated the new church on July 2, 1871. Due to the expense, the twin spires were not added until 1893.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The present-day Saint Johns Church has an eclectic style, including elements of French Gothic Revival and American Romanesque Revival architecture.</p><br>
<h3>Exterior and plan</h3><br>
<p>The church is constructed of red brick laid in a modified Flemish bond and white limestone corner buttresses over a limestone foundation. It has an arched main entrance, a square cupola, and twin spires. The basic cruciform plan includes a shallow transept, nave, and a half-octagon apse. The sanctuary has a seating capacity of 3,000. Saint Johns was the largest church in Indiana when the cornerstone was laid in 1867. The church measures 75 ft wide, 202.5 ft long, and 53 ft tall. Its twin spires are 194 ft tall.</p><br>
<p>The main facade facing Capitol Avenue is divided into three sections with three portals faced in stone. The three-story gabled center section contains the main entrance with large wooden doors. Limestone Corinthian order columns support a compound Gothic arch. The stone tympanum above the main portal includes Joseph Quarmbys life-size representation of John the Evangelist pondering the scriptures, and the churchs construction dates (1867 and 1871) are inscribed in stone over the main entrance. A half-circle stone cap bears the inscription "D.O.M. " (Deo optimo maximo), meaning "To God, the Best and Greatest." A gabled parapet with a blind trefoil and a cross surmounts the arch. A rose window is installed in the center at the second-story level. The facade&#39;s two tower sections, topped with identical copper spires on the left and right, include an additional entrance with wooden doors. Each tower has four upper levels separated by belted courses and include openings at each level.</p><br>
<h3>Interior</h3><br>
<p>The Gothic sanctuary includes Corinthian columns and ribbed vaulting. An organ and choir gallery is built at the rear of the nave, above the narthex. Guy Leber, an Italian-Swiss painter from Louisville, Kentucky, painted the ceiling of the apse with The Angels of Glory (white-robed angels and halo-crowned seraphs).</p><br>
<p>The church&#39;s original walls included oak wainscoting extending 5 ft from the floor, a painted wall, and a simple border. Stonecarver Henry R. Sanders made the interior capitals and pillars in staff (plaster of Paris and manila fiber cast in a gelato mold)</p><br>
<p>The church contains four chapels along the nave, two on each side. The Saint Patrick and Pietà chapels on the right were gifts of Bishop Chatard; the Sacred Heart and Saint Anne chapels were gifts of Father Bessonies. The Saint Patrick Chapel contains a statue of Saint Patrick, patron saint of Ireland; the Pietà chapel contains a statue of the Mother of Sorrows; the Sacred Heart Chapel contains a statue of the Sacred Heart; and the Saint Anne Chapel includes an altar and statue of Saint Anne and her daughter, the Virgin Mary. Each of the four side chapels contains two art nouveau-style glass windows that were installed in 1893.</p><br>
<p>Twenty-five leaded-glass windows were installed in the churchs exterior walls. The original rose window on the west façade was destroyed in a hailstorm in 1923. The Emil Frei Art Glass Company designed its replacement, which depicts Saint John on the island of Patmos; it was installed in 1924. Musicians and musical instruments surround the central design. The stained-glass window in the center of the apse was a gift from Bishop St. Palais; it depicts Saint Johns vision in the Apocalypse. The art-glass window in the former baptistery depicts Christ&#39;s baptism in the Jordan River. Twenty of the remaining twenty-two windows were designed in 1942 by Henry Keck Studios of Syracuse, New York.</p><br>
<p>A pipe organ built in 1989 is installed in the organ gallery at the rear of the sanctuary. Its organ case comes from the original instrument, installed in 1894 that was destroyed during a hailstorm in 1923. A portion of the pipework was retained from a previous organ built for the church in 1935.</p><br>
<p>Alterations to the original interior when it was refurbished in 1971 included repositioning the altar to face the congregation, moving the baptismal font to the left transept, and removal of communion rails.</p><br>
<h3>Rectory</h3><br>
<p>The rectory was built in two phases. The two-story east section was built in 1863. The three-story bishops residence and chancery was built in 1879. The bishops residence is attached to the rectorys east side. Both buildings face Georgia Street and are constructed of red brick laid in Flemish bond and trimmed in limestone. The 1863 building is constructed over a limestone foundation and includes a three-bay façade with steps leading to the entrance. The rectorys façade has a Flemish gable and a Tudor-Gothic arch that shelters the entrance door, sidelights, and transom. The 1879 addition is more Victorian in style. Its openings are arched, and the front façade features a two-story bay. A red-brick wall in Flemish bond separates the rectory and addition from Georgia Street.</p><br>

<h2>Ordinations</h2><br>
<p>Auxiliary bishop Denis O&#39;Donaghue was consecrated at Saint Johns Church on April 25, 1900; it was the first episcopal consecration held in Indianapolis.</p><br>
<h2>Membership</h2><br>
<p>Membership declined for several decades after the turn of the century, when local families began to leave the downtown area and move to the citys suburbs. Parish membership of 3,000 in the 1880s had decreased to less than 30 by the 1970s. In 1971, the churchs centennial, it assumed a new ministry to serve Indianapolis visitors and downtown workers. The church&#39;s location across the street from the Indianapolis Convention Center and its proximity to downtown hotels and attractions makes it a convenient gathering place for convention attendees and other visitors. As of 2017 parish membership has increased to 1200 households.</p><br>
<p>Kymi  is a coastal town and a former municipality  in the island of Euboea, Greece, named after an ancient Greek place of the same name. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kymi-Aliveri, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 167.616 km. The ancient Euboean Kyme is mentioned as a harbor town related to the more prominent poleis of Chalkis and Eretria in antiquity. Together with these, it is sometimes named as the founding metropolis of the homonymous Kymē  in Italy, an important early Euboean colony, which was probably named after it.</p><br>
<p>There are few or no archaeological traces of ancient Euboean Kyme, and its exact location is not known. A Bronze Age settlement has been excavated in nearby Mourteri. Some modern authors believe that Kyme never existed as an independent polis in historical times but that it was a mere village dependent on either Chalkis or Eretria.</p><br>
<h2>Attractions</h2><br>
<p>Visitors have plenty to see in Kymi, a beautiful small town and the region who "supervise" the Aegean Sea from a privileged position. It is also the reason why they called Balcony of the Aegean. Kymi has one of the largest artificial ports in the country and efforts to provide this transportation hub in the eastern Aegean islands and northern Greece. At the same time the City Kymi is in terms of native vegetation of the greenest of Greece and is second all in clean sands. Interesting for the visitor spots are numerous. For example: the house where lived the famous (Pap test) doctor - researcher George Papanicolaou and the Folklore Museum of Kymi, the Monastery of the Transfiguration, three small Byzantine churches in Oxilithos, the Archaeological Collection and the Archaeological Site of the river, ruined Venetian tower in San handkerchief etc.</p><br>
<p>The most famous agricultural products produced in Kymi is figs, cherries and olive oil. From products to purely local color distinguish the "cocoon display" handicrafts made from cocoons, and many kinds of sweets such as baklava and almond.</p><br>

<p>The road network in the Kymi region is quite underdeveloped. There is only one major road (regional road) connecting the city of Kymi with Chania Avlonariou (a part of Avlonari), Aliveri and from there to the Greek National Road 44 towards Chalkis and Karystos.</p><br>
<h2>Sports</h2><br>
<p>Kymi has a few basketball courts, as well as an outdoor football pitch. There is also a sports club called "Kymi Sports Club" with teams in football, basketball and volleyball.</p><br>
<p>Just outside the north city limits of Topeka, Kansas, is a 12 acre lake that, according to a comment in the GoingOutside.com website, is called Menoken Lake or North Topeka Oxbow Lake. This lake, a natural freshwater oxbow lake, is one of about six lakes that once were part of the Kansas River. The River is a mile to the south of Menoken Lake. When the river current shifted to the south, this lake was left behind. The lake is about 225 ft wide and about 1,200 ft long. It is curved into an arc. This lake was once longer on both ends. On the east end, the roadway for US 24 was filled through the lakebed. A small patch of water still exists south of US 24. On the west end, an entrance/exit ramp was built. The roadbed was filled in that portion of the lakebed. A small patch of water exists inside the loop of the ramp.</p><br>
<p>To the south of the lake is US 24 and a frontage road is at the lakes southeast end. Crop fields adjoin the lake along the east and south. North 25th Street is just north of the lake and three or four residences are along the lakes edge there. A private jetty juts into Menoken Lake from the north shore. The west one-third of the lake has been separated from the rest by two privately owned dams. No public swimming is allowed and there are no public boat ramps. However, fishing can be done from the shore at the lake&#39;s east and west ends where the public road right of way adjoins the lake.</p><br>
<p>The Großer Bärenstein  is a 327 m high table hill in the German region of Saxon Switzerland in the Free State of Saxony. Close by is the Kleiner Bärenstein which, together with the Großer Bärenstein, forms the massif known as the Bärensteine.</p><br>
<h2>Location and area</h2><br>
<p>The Großer Bärenstein is located within a loop of the River Elbe near Rathen. Immediately at its foot is the woodland of the farms of Fleck from Weißig and the villages of Thürmsdorf and Naundorf, as well as the village of Pötzscha, part of Stadt Wehlen.</p><br>
<p>There are several climbing rocks on the Großer Bärenstein. Its summit is divided into two, with a saddle in between. The northern side has a picturesque view of Stadt Wehlen and the Elbe valley looking towards Pirna, the south and east sides look towards Königstein Fortress and the hills between the Papststein and Schrammsteine.</p><br>
<p>It may be ascended from the western-located Naundorf (easy, no signposts) or from the north (Riegelhofstiege, difficult, Klettersteig).</p><br>
<h2>Appearance</h2><br>
<p>Unlike the Kleiner Bärenstein, the rock is almost entirely wooded and views are limited.</p><br>

<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Kleiner Bärenstein was first recorded in 1548 as "im Behrenstein". Earlier descriptions also talked of the "Thürmsdorfer Bärenstein". In the 19th century the district forester (Revierförster), Wilhelm Mahn, made the Bärenstein accessible to hikers.</p><br>
<p>From 1851 until 1943 there was a small day-trippers pub on the Kleiner Bärenstein. As a result of the Second World War it was not possible to renovate and maintain it, so the restaurant fell into decay. Its foundations are still visible today.</p><br>
<p>In 2004 the woods around the Bärensteine were bought by private individuals.</p><br>
<h2>Diebskeller</h2><br>
<p>At the southwestern foot of the Kleiner Bärenstein there is a small collapse cave, caused by a rockfall and erosion, that is known locally as the Thieves&#39; Cellar (Diebskeller).</p><br>
<p>Wilhelm Leberecht Götzinger, who grew up in nearby Struppen, was apparently inspired to research the nature of Saxon Switzerland when walking to the Kleiner Bärenstein as a child. Götzinger later published the first comprehensive descriptions of Saxon Switzerland. In 1886 the Saxon Switzerland Alpine Club erected a memorial tablet in the Diebskeller in honour of Götzinger.</p><br>
<h2>Views</h2><br>
<p>There is a viewing point on the summit of the Kleiner Bärenstein with views over large parts of Saxon Switzerland.</p><br>
<p>Malepunyo Range  is an extinct volcano located on Luzon Island in the Philippines. The mountain range is located between the provinces of Batangas, Laguna and Quezon. It is popular among mountaineers, and has three interconnected destinations: Mt. Malepunyo, the highest; Bagwis Peak ; and Mount Dalaga .</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Malepunyo Range is an inactive volcano to which its caldera is facing south along the vicinity between Lipa City and San Antonio, Quezon. By the 1990s the Malepunyo Mountain Range has been erroneously tagged as Malarayat Mountain Range due to the famous country club located at its western slope named after the Malarayat Hill. Mount Malepunyo is its highest peak located at Barangay Talisay, Lipa City standing at 1,002 m above mean sea level by the ridge of its caldera. The second highest peak of the range is Mt. Dalaga standing at 755 m above mean sea level situated at the boundary of Santo Tomas, Batangas and Alaminos, Laguna. During the 1990s, the name was changed by the locals of Santo Tomas to Manabu as a shortened Tagalog phrase Mataas na Bundok which means "High Mountain". At the center of the mountain range is a cliff known as Bagwis Cliff by the locals, yet due to its shape that resembles a goats breast, it is also called as Susong-Kambing (en:Goats Breast). In time, mountaineers have also mistakenly named this cliff as Susong Dalaga (en. maiden&#39;s breast) which is actually the oldest name of Manabu Peak. A discontinued highway project connecting San Pablo City and Lipa City that traverses the central part of the mountain range made way for the creation of what the mountaineers call as Biak na Bundok (en. Sliced Mountain).</p><br>

<p>The mountain range is a famous source of Alamid Coffee due to civet cats that chew on coffee beans and ferments the seeds inside its digestive system. The fermented coffee beans are then excreted along the trails and is cleaned and pulverized for coffee preparation.</p><br>
<h2>Hiking</h2><br>
<p>The jurisdiction of the Malepunyo Range is separated into two. The Manabu peak is under the jurisdiction of Santo Tomas, Batangas to which its jump-off is at Sitio Sulok. It resembles an easy trail to which a cross has been erected on its summit while a plateau beside it is used as a saddle camp. The southern half is under the jurisdiction of Lipa City, Batangas and the jump-off is located at Sitio Talisay. To which the trail leads to the summit of Mount Malepunyo. A class-4 trail connects Malipunyo to Manabu peak which passes through the vicinity of Bagwis Peak and the grassland plateau leading to Biak-na-Bundok and by the dense forest of the mountain range towards the plateau campsite of Manabu.</p><br>
<p>The Repulse Bay to Ince Bay Important Bird Area is a disjunct stretch of coastline comprising a series of relatively sheltered beaches in the Mackay-Whitsunday region of Central Queensland, north-eastern Australia. With an area of 134 km, it extends for about 180 km from Repulse Bay in the north through the city of Mackay to Ince Bay and Cape Palmerston in the south. It is an important site for waders, or shorebirds.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Most of the site consists of intertidal mudflats and estuaries providing feeding habitat for waders, with areas of sand and mangroves. It includes 17 small, near-shore islands which provide roosting habitat. Areas excluded from the site are mostly exposed coasts. Much of the site lies within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, and a small area lies within the Cape Palmerston National Park.</p><br>
<h2>Birds</h2><br>
<p>The site has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because it regularly supports over 1% of the world populations of Far Eastern curlews, great knots, grey-tailed tattlers and pied oystercatchers, as well as beach stone-curlews and mangrove honeyeaters.</p><br>
<p>Monte Musinè or simply Musinè  is a mountain in the Graian Alps in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont, north Italy. Musinè is well known for the high cross on its peak, as well as for being the mountain closest to Turin. It is visible from the Piedmontese plateau and from the mountains in the provinces of Biella and Vercelli.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>Mount Musinè is the easternmost mountain of the long ridge which, starting from Rocciamelone, divides the valleys of Susa and Lanzo.</p><br>
<p>Its main summit has a subsummit called Truc dellEremita (Hermits hill, 1.101 m), and is surrounded by several minor hills. To the east on a 535 m high hill stands Saint Abaco&#39;s sanctuary, and to the northeast on Monte Calvo, 551 m high, there is a Via Crucis leading to a chapel.</p><br>
<p>Mount Musinè is connected to the neighbouring Mount Curto (1.323 m) by a broad wooded ridge, the lowest point of which is the Colle della Bassetta (Bassetta&#39;s pass, 945 m).</p><br>
<p>Mount Musinè&#39;s summit is a tripoint at which the borders of the municipalities of Caselette, Almese and Val della Torre meet.</p><br>

<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>A number of prehistoric and protohistoric archaeological sites have been discovered in the area. These include traces of a hut dating to the early Bronze Age (ca 1700 BC) found in Caselette, and several finds from the late Iron Age in the vicinity of Almese (Truc Randolera).</p><br>
<p>Two Roman buildings from the imperial period are located near the mountain: a villa rustica in Caselette and a large residential villa in Almese (Grange di Rivera).</p><br>
<p>A local tradition states that it was near Mount Musinè (and therefore not during the Battle of the Milvian Bridge) that the emperor Constantine I saw a flaming cross and the words In hoc signo vinces shortly before the Battle of Turin (312) against his rival Maxentius, which he won.</p><br>
<p>In 1901 a 15 m high cross was built on the top of the mountain using reinforced concrete.</p><br>
<p>On the northeastern slopes of Mount Musinè several magnesite quarries were active between 1875 and the Second World War.</p><br>
<h3>UFO sightings</h3><br>
<p>Several encounters with UFOs have been reported around the mountain from the 1970s onward.</p><br>
<p>Quite well known is the case of December 8, 1978, when two young hikers walking on the slopes of the Musinè saw a bright light; one of them, after approaching it, temporarily disappeared.</p><br>
<p>His mate, with the help of some passers-by, searched for him and after a while found his friend in a state of shock and with a noticeable scald on one leg. After regaining consciousness the young man he reported having seen an elongated vehicle and that some strangely shaped beings descended from it, touching and efting him. Both the young hikers suffered from conjunctivitis for some time.</p><br>
<h2>Nature conservation</h2><br>
<p>The mountain and its surrounding area are included in a SIC (Site of Community Importance) of 1,524.29 ha called Monte Musine&#39; e Laghi di Caselette (code IT1110081).</p><br>
<p>Maisel&#39;s Indian Trading Post is located in the city of Albuquerque, county of Bernalillo, in the USA state of New Mexico. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Bernalillo County, New Mexico in 1993.</p><br>
<h2>Store</h2><br>
<p>Established by Morris and Syma Maisel in 1939 to cater to the new USA Route 66 tourist trade, this Pueblo Revival building was designed by architect John Gaw Meem. The building features murals designed by Olive Rush. Various murals depicting Indian life were painted by ten Pueblo and Navajo artists such as Narcisco Abeyta, Harrison Begay, and Awa TsirehLester, Patrick D., The Biographical Directory of Native American Painters, SIR Publications, Tulsa, Oklahoma,</p><br>
<p>9780806199369, First edition, 1995 The trading post employed hundreds of native craftspeople in its heyday. It closed upon its founders death, only to be reopened in the 1980s by Morris grandson, Skip. It continues to trade as Skip Maisel&#39;s Indian Jewelry and Crafts.</p><br>
<p>The Startup Candy Factory is a historic building located in Provo, Utah that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The first candy bars in the United States were produced here.</p><br>
<h2>Startup Candy Factory</h2><br>
<h3>Company</h3><br>
<p>The Startup Candy company was founded by William Startup. He built the factory at 534 South 100 West in 1900 to help expand the family business. One of the first candy companies in Utah, the Startup Candy Company thrived in Utah’s dry climate. The company produced the first candy bars in the USA, as well as being the first to produce and sell ice cream. This facility helped Utah produce more candy than the rest of the Intermountain States combined. The Startup Candy Company was the first company in Utah state to introduce profit sharing to its employees.</p><br>
<p>The Startup Candy Factory was added to the Provo City Historic Landmarks registry on March 21, 1996.</p><br>
<h3>Structure</h3><br>
<p>A mix between a warehouse style, and a light commercial style, the Startup Candy Factory has two stories and a basement. The southern portion of the structure is fairly plain with no decorative elements adorning the outside, it displays an asymmetrical facade. The middle section is more decorative, with a Roman arched door bay and a stone belt course, as well as recessed brick panels encasing window and door bays. The northern section has a corbled brick course along the second level.</p><br>
<h3>The William Daw Startup family</h3><br>
<p>Born to William Startup and Selina Morris in Widcombe, England, on September 8, 1846, William helped his father make candy as a child, beneath their retail store in the basement. After William converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he alone out of his family immigrated to the United States. On November 14, 1869 William wed Hagar in Salt Lake City’s Endowment House. Once married, William and Hagar settled in Salt Lake, hoping that William would be able to make a living as a teacher. In the year 1874, they moved to Provo, and in 1875, they began making candy in a factory they constructed next to their home. William was hit by a limestone cooling slab, which caused his untimely death in the year 1878.</p><br>
<p>Hagar, his wife, had four children by that time, and endeavored to carry on the candy making business in their support. By 1892, the store was a success, and became the third wholesale manufacturing company in the state of Utah. Three years later, Hagar’s sons Walter, George, and William became the owners. In 1896, the first candy bar in the United States, the opera bar, was sold for ten cents from this factory. When the depression hit and economic difficulties ensued, Walter Startup purchased his brothers’ interests, but soon lost them to the bank. Eventually, additional funds were procured, and Walter was able to buy back the northern half of the factory, where the company continued to operate.</p><br>
<p>It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.</p><br>
<p>The Edgewater Public Library is located at 48 Hudson Avenue in Edgewater, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States.</p><br>
<p>Serving a population of 7,677, the library in 2011 included a collection of 20,402 volumes. As member of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System, a consortium of municipal libraries in the northeastern New Jersey counties of Bergen, Hudson, Passaic, and Essex it has a circulation of 52,627 items per year.</p><br>
<p>The building is one of New Jersey&#39;s 36 Carnegie libraries, constructed with a grant of $15,000 made March 16, 1915 by the Carnegie Corporation and opened in 1916. Engraved about its entrance is Edgewater Free Library. In 2009, the library was listed on the state and national registers of historic places.</p><br>
<p>Egå Engsø is an artificial lake and wetland site located in the north of the town of Aarhus between Vejlby, Risskov and Lystrup. Engsø means meadow lake and Egå means oak stream, referring to the stream that drains the lake into the Aarhus bay. The lake area is bordered by the Djursland motorway to the north and the Aarhus-Grenaa railway and the municipal heating pipes from Studstrup Power Station to the south and west.</p><br>
<h2>Background</h2><br>
<p>Egå Engsø was created by re-flooding meadows on land previously drained in the 1950s for agricultural use. By the 1990s the water quality and natural ecosystem in and around the Egå river into which the site drained had declined due to the effect of nitrate fertilizer (eutrophication) use, through intensive farming in the area. Aarhus Municipality, Aarhus County and the Danish Forest and Nature Agency resolved to construct the lake as part of Vandmiljøplan II (English: Action Plan for the Aquatic Environment II) from 1998 to reduce this effect through bacterial denitrification</p><br>
<p>. Another major reason for initiating the project, have been the need for a strengthened defence against increasing rainfalls. The lake was created alongside work on the new Djursland motorway, and completed in 2006. Aarhus municipality is single owner.</p><br>
<h2>Surroundings</h2><br>
<p>The lake covers approximately 115 hectare, with another c. 100 hectare hectares of reedbeds and meadows. Access to the lake is restricted in most places, as the wet meadows at the lake brinks are reserved for grazing cattle. The grazing helps to restrict the growth of shrubs and woody plants and maintain a natural meadow habitat. It also increases the biodiversity. The amount of water in the lake, varies a great deal (by design) with weather and season, but under normal conditions, the average depth is about 1 m. Water levels can rise by an additional meter or more. The lake contains a number of fish species, fishing is prohibited however, as is swimming.</p><br>
<p>On the south brink, there is a bird watching tower erected in 2007, whose construction was funded by Australian wine firm Banrock Station. The lake attracts many different bird species, often in large flocks, with 188 species registered up to 2015.</p><br>
<p>A path c. 5 km long (with each km marked) runs round the circumference of the lake, suitable for walking, rollerblading, running or biking. There are 2 parking lots; near the motorway junction from Lystrupvej at the north east corner and from Viengevej in the south east corner. There are access to and from the villages of Terp and Vejby for bikes and pedestrians, through passageways underneath the railway line on the western side. On the southern brinks are an activity and learning area for children and schools, modelled on a Stone Age settlement, and a number of shelters which may be booked for camping. It is a popular area and it is a statutory goal of the Aarhus municipality to make it publicly accessible and attractive for the citizens.</p><br>
<h2>Special flora and fauna</h2><br>
<p>Many specimens of the flora and fauna at Egå Engsø, are either rare or relatively rare in Denmark. Some are on the Danish Red List (under IUCN Red List) and/or protected under different habitat directives of the European Union. Here is a few examples:</p><br>
<p>Common comfrey (Læge-Kulsukker) is growing here, but is rare in Denmark. It is slightly poisonous and carcinogenic, but have nevertheless been used extensively in folklore-medicine as a wound healing plant among other uses.</p><br>
<p>The globally endangered (EN) thick shelled river mussel has established here. It is rare in Denmark and is to be protected under the EU habitat directive (II and IV). It is an indicator species of good water quality and important for nature management in general.</p><br>
<p>Short-eared owls are living and foraging here. It is endangered (EN) and relatively rare in Denmark.</p><br>
<p>The lake area occasionally houses resting white storks, a critically endangered (CR) and relatively rare bird in Denmark.</p><br>
<p>Eurasian spoonbills are resting here and they are vulnerable (VU) and relatively rare in Denmark.</p><br>
<p>The ferruginous ducks living here, are rare in Denmark and near threatened (NT) on a global scale.</p><br>
<p>Black terns are here and they are endangered (EN) and relatively rare in Denmark.</p><br>
<p>Parts of the meadows surrounding Egå Engsø, are grazed by cattle in the warmer months of the year, to create ideal conditions for the emerging flora and fauna associated with wet meadows.</p><br>
<h2>Archaeological finds</h2><br>
<p>In the Stone Age, the Egå Engsø area was a small part of a much larger fjord, that filled the entire Egå valley and stretched from the Bay of Aarhus to Lisbjerg. Moesgård Museum in Aarhus have found numerous traces from the earliest human settlements, boats and kitchen middens in and around the Egå valley. In the extensive primeval woods of those days, the Stone Age people hunted for aurochs, elk and wild boars and in the fjord they engaged in fishing, collecting shellfish and whaling even. Orcas was an important part of the meals of the stone age people at the Bay of Aarhus. The whales where killed with throwing spears and lances and the hunt was carried out from their long narrow dugout canoes, according to some sources. Bone remains from at least 16 individuals of the heavy orcas, have been accounted for at the site. Some of the excavated dugouts from the early 1990s to 2001 at Lystrup Enge, have been carbon-14 dated to the years 5,210-4,910 BC and is thus the oldest known boats in Northern Europe at present.</p><br>

<p>William D. Roberts was a central figure in the City of Provo’s development. His home, located at 212 North and 500 West, was built in 1875 in the Greek revival style. The William D. Roberts House was designated to the Provo City Historic Landmarks Registry on August 22, 1996.</p><br>
<h3>Structure</h3><br>
<p>The William D. Roberts house was constructed in 1875. A two story home with a gable roof, this home is “The best-preserved example in Provo of a house that displays the traditional form and Greek Revival detailing of the pioneer period while concurrently reflecting the increased verticality of the early Victorian influence in Utah (Randall p. 1).” The use of the Greek revival style is evident in the decorative features of the building. The home contains a boxed cornice as well as six over six double hung sash windows with pedmimental window heads. The doors also exhibit these window heads. There have been several alterations made to the structure since it was originally made, such as alterations on the facade, and extensions made to the house, the home still retains much of its original character.</p><br>
<h3>William D. Roberts</h3><br>
<p>Born in Winchester, Illinois, on September 4, 1835, William D. Roberts was approximately ten when his family relocated from Illinois to Garden Grove, Iowa. After a subsequent move to Lancaster, Missouri, his family relocated yet again to Provo Utah in 1851. It was in Provo that William D. Roberts joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Eventually Roberts fulfilled two missions for the church, one in California and one in Great Britain. He also became a member of the Seventies; a general authority in the church. Later in 1851, William, his brother Bolivar, and their father left for California. Once in Placerville, then known as Hang Town, Their father practiced medicine while William and Bolivar mined for a living. This pursuit did not prove as fruitful as planned, as William was not able to afford making it back to Utah until 1855, and at that time only made it with two twenty dollar gold pieces after the four years in California.</p><br>
<p>Once back in Provo, Roberts fulfilled several assignments of note. Roberts was assigned among a group of men to find Chief Tintic and his company of men, who had been harassing the settlers. Also, Roberts was one of the men who left Utah to help the pioneer Saints make it all the way to Utah when many were trapped within the cold in 1856. In the year 1857, on their way to trade with emigrants in Sweet Water, both Roberts and a man by the name Daniel Jones were abducted by Crow Indians, but rescued the next day by travelers heading towards California. In 1858 Roberts worked in freighting and carrying passengers between Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, California.</p><br>
<p>On February 6, 1862, Roberts wed Maria Julia Lusk in Lancaster, Missouri, and subsequently he brought her to live with him in Provo. William Roberts became active in the community of Provo, serving as a member of the City council from 1878 to 1881, as an alderman from 1884 to 1885, and as the first postmaster in the state of Utah. He also participated in the first brass band put together in Utah county, as well as in Provo’s first dramatic association. William Roberts died on March 8, 1912.</p><br>
<p>The Carl W. A. Groos House is located in the city of New Braunfels, county of Comal, in the USA state of Texas. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Comal County, Texas in 2000, and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1968. Groos occupied this house for approximately one year. He moved to San Antonio, and in 1880 had architect Alfred Giles design his home which became known as the Carl Wilhelm August Groos House. Originally owned by one of the early German emigrants to New Braunfels, the house has also remained in the hands of descendants of the early German settlers. Diplomat Bob Krueger used the building for his business office and renovated it in 1999.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Carl Wilhelm August Groos (1830–1893) was a Prussian emigrant to Texas in 1848, first in Fayette County and then Gillespie County. In February 1870, Groos purchased a block of land between Seguin and Castell Streets, which consisted of Lot 56 and Lot 72 for $1,900. On May 20, 1870, he married Hulda Amalie Moureau of New Braunfels, and became part of his father-in-laws business. Groos built his New Braunfels home shortly after the wedding. In 1872, Groos moved his family to San Antonio, retaining ownership of the New Braunfels house. In 1879, the house was sold to Grosss sister Emile and her husband New Braunfels’ Mayor Johann Friedrich Adolph Giesecke. A native of Hanover, Germany, Giesecke emigrated to Texas in 1846. The Gieseckes sold the house to local merchant Fritz Scholl, whose family retained ownership until 1946. Scholl was married to the daughter of Julius Rennert, one of the original New Braunfels settlers. Arlon and Faye Krueger, parents of career politician and diplomat Bob Krueger, purchased the house in 1946. Arlon Kruegers grandfather Karl emigrated to Texas in the 19th Century. Upon Arlons death in 1973, the house remained with his immediate family. Bob Krueger used the building as his business office, and had the building renovated in 1999.</p><br>
<p>Eigerøya is an island in Eigersund municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 19.9 km&sup2; island lies just off the mainland coast in the town of Egersund. The highest point on the island is the 131 m tall Varden. The U-shaped island is divided into two parts by the Lundarviga bay. The northwestern  side of the island is called Nordre Eigerøya and the larger side on the southeast is called Søre Eigerøya.</p><br>
<p>Eigerøya is separated from the mainland by a narrow 13 km long strait. The Eigerøy Bridge crosses the strait and connects Eigerøya to the mainland. The island has fish processing industry and other industries. Two lighthouses are located at the island: Eigerøy Lighthouse and Vibberodden Lighthouse.</p><br>
<p>A naval battle was fought off the island by British and Dutch frigate squadrons at the Action of 22 August 1795.</p><br>
<p>The Knight Allen House is a historic house located in Provo, Utah. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.</p><br>
<h2>Knight-Allen House * 390 East Center Street * Provo, Utah</h2><br>
<p>The Knight-Allen home was constructed in 1888 in the Victorian style. Containing a Moorish tin scalloped roof, an Italianate turret, distinctive lintels, Romanesque porch tiers, and several ornate window shapes, it is an excellent example of a Victorian Eclectic home. The Knight-Allen House was designated to the Provo City Historic Landmarks Registry on June 19, 1996.</p><br>
<h3>Jessie Knight</h3><br>
<p>Perhaps the wealthiest man in Provo at the time, Jesse Knight was born in 1845 in Nauvoo, Illinois. Jessie’s family migrated west, and reached Utah Territory in 1857. Twelve years later Jessie married Amanda McEwan, and began a ranch near Payson. Following an impression that he had, Jessie began a mining operation in the Eureka area and became rich. He subsequently bought other mines, founded a bank, purchased real estate in Provo, bought the Provo Woolen Mills, and started farming and cattle interests in Canada. Throughout all of these efforts Jessie remained an active supporter of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his mines were called the "cleanest mining camps in the west (Utah State Historical Society p. 2)." Jessie Knight died in 1921, designating much of his amassed fortune to Brigham Young University and various other institutions. After his death, the house was occupied by Jessie&#39;s daughter, Inez Knight Allen, and her husband.</p><br>
<h3>The Victorian Mansions of Provo</h3><br>
<p>Built between the years 1893 and 1908 in Provo, Utah, this group of Victorian mansions are historically significant and represent not only fine architecture but some of the most successful men of the city and state at the time. These mansions include the Charles E. Loose House, the William H. Ray House, the Knight-Allen House, the John R. Twelves House, the Jesse Knight House, the Knight-Mangum House, and the Thomas N. Taylor House. All of these homes derive from the high style: Eastlake, Shingle, Craftsman, Italianate, Classical, Moorish, Colonial, and Romanesque Revivals. Made primarily of brick, these homes exhibit the finest architecture and most ornate detailing to be found in the city of Provo.</p><br>
<h3>Jesse Knight and The Tintic Mining Industry</h3><br>
<p>The successful commercial mining of precious metals and minerals transformed Utah&#39;s economy from basically an agrarian base to a more industrialized state. Within this development the Tintic Mining District, located approximately thirty miles southwest of Provo, was founded in 1869 and by 1899 became the leading mining center in Utah with a value of output placed at five million dollars. A central figure in Tintic success was Jesse Knight and the Knight family who resided in Provo. Jesse Knight attained wealth with his Humbug mine in the mid-1890s. The large silver producer allowed Knight to develop other mines in the East Tintic area. Knightsville grew around the workings and became touted as the only saloon-free, prostitute-free, privately owned mining camp in the USA His strict adherence to doctrines of the LDS church made the town one inhabited primarily by Mormons.</p><br>
<p>Jessie Knight was able to expand farther than the tintic mines, reaching to the power plant in Santaquin, the Tintic drain tunnel project, the Knight Dry farm, and the smelters at Silver City. The Bonneville Mining company, the Knight Woolen Mills, Ellison Ranching Company, The American-Columbian Corporation, The Springville-Mapleton Sugar Company, The Spring Canyon Coal Company, Utah Savings Bank, The Layton Sugar Company, and the Tintic Drain Tunnel Company all represent facets of the Knight Investment Company. As a result of all these financial successes, the Knight-Allen house was able to be built. It was probably designed by Provo architect Richard C. Watkins.</p><br>
<h3>Preservation</h3><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 as part of a multiple property submission that nominated seven and listed six Provo houses. The listed houses are the Knight-Mangum House, the John R. Twelves House, the Jesse Knight House, this, the Knight-Allen House, the William H. Ray House, and the Thomas N. Taylor House. The seventh, the Charles E. Loose House, was determined to be NRHP-eligible but was not NRHP-listed due to owner objection.</p><br>
<p>The Knight Block is a historic building located in Provo, Utah. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.</p><br>
<h2>The Knight Block * 1-13 East Center Street, 20-24 North University Avenue * Provo, Utah</h2><br>
<p>The Knight Block was constructed in 1900, and served as Jesse Knight’s financial headquarters. It was designated to the National Register of Historic Places in May 1977.</p><br>
<h3>Structure</h3><br>
<p>A three story building, the Knight Block is a rectangular structure containing a ground floor for retail, a basement, and two upper floors used for offices. The structure is made of red brick with gray limestone lintels. On the Southwest of the building is a clock tower which rises over the roof line of the building. Several additions have been made to the building, such as three bays built on the north end of the western face of the building and the inside of the main floor.</p><br>

<p>The Pipestone Water Tower is a 132 ft concrete water tower in Pipestone, Minnesota, United States, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Unreliable rainfall and a lack of glacial lakes in the area necessitate the use of a tower to pump and store water from an underground reservoir.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Pipestone Water Tower is unique in that it is one of only two water towers in the United States known to have been designed by architect L.P. Wolfe; its sister, the Brainerd Water Tower, is located in Brainerd, Minnesota. It was built to replace an aged steel standpipe tower built in the late 1880s. Construction on the structure was commenced by the Campbell Construction Company in 1920 for $24,610. Water service from the tower began on October 26, 1921 and continued until it was replaced by a larger tower in 1976. A restoration of the tower was undertaken in 1990, along with the construction of a new wayside rest area.</p><br>
<h2>The building</h2><br>
<p>The water tower, significant in that it is constructed of poured concrete, stands at 132 ft tall and roughly 25 ft in diameter. The 150,000 gal capacity tank is supported by a hollow supporting column which contains an unusual set of spiral windows and an internal staircase. The tower pumped and stored water from a 500,000 gal reservoir built below it at the time of its construction, releasing the water via gravity on demand.</p><br>
<h2>Present day</h2><br>
<p>The tower has become the center of the Water Tower Festival, a community celebration held in late June.</p><br>
<p>The Lakeview Tithing Office, also known as the Bunnell Creamery, is a historic building located in Provo, Utah, United States. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Lakeview Tithing Office was constructed in 1899. Originally serving as a creamery, it eventually became a hub for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints LDS Church), and an important symbol of their faith.</p><br>
<p>This structure is only one story high, and is made of brick. It has a roof that is a mix between a gable roof and a hip roof, and possesses a stone foundation and a false front. The detailing of the home includes corbelling of the upper edge, rock-faced shoulder arches, and jigsaw cut elements in the wooden arches. There have been no major changes to the building, and it remains in good condition.</p><br>
<p>The Lakeview Tithing office is one of twenty eight tithing offices in Utah for the LDS Church, which buildings functioned between 1850 and 1910. These facilities served for church members to be able to collect, store, and distribute the farm products donated as tithing, for at the time, agricultural products comprised most of what people worked for and earned. Serving as a node for economic activity and welfare, the Lakeview tihing office was a vital building for many of the early inhabitants of the city who belonged to the LDS church.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Built in 1899 by Leslie L. Bunnell, the Lakeview Tithing office, prior to being a tithing office, operated as a creamery for several years. The first creamery in Lakeview, this building was involved in the producing and selling of cheese and butter, and the selling of milk. The Bunnell family, consisting of five children, lived inside the creamery on the room located on the west end. In 1904, an adjoining house was built, and the family relocated. Subsequently the Bunnells sold the creamery to the Lakeview ward of the LDS church, who deemed to use it as a tithing office. The Bunnell family re-purchased the building back in approximately 1920 for use as a granary and occasionally to rent the west room out.</p><br>
<p>It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.</p><br>
<p>Condominium 1 was the first unit in the Sea Ranch development on the Pacific coast of Sonoma County, California. The complex was designed by Charles W. Moore, Donlyn Lyndon, William Turnbull, Jr. and Richard Whitaker of the MLTW partnership in 1963–1964, and was built by contractor Matthew Sylvia in 1965. The timber-framed structure overlooks the Pacific Ocean. It has been described as one of the most significant architectural designs of the 1960s in California, and has received numerous awards.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Condominium 1 is located on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Pacific. It is a complex of ten condominium units, intended to be seen as a single structure. The design was inspired by barns and other farm buildings in the region and, with the help of landscape architect Lawrence Halprin, was built to take into account the local ecology. The timber frame is clad in vertical redwood siding, with vertical forms resembling mine structures anchoring a series of sloping roofs that descend toward the ocean, perforated by skylights.</p><br>
<p>Windows are plain openings without trim or mullions. There are no eaves or significant fascia trim. On the uphill side the building wraps around a courtyard that houses the units&#39; garages. Interior spaces feature the full range of MLTW-developed design elements.</p><br>
<p>The 10-unit structure was Moores first major work. It exemplifies Moores "shed style" with single-pitched roofs, board siding, and plain detailing. The style, with its emphasis on a partnership with the site, was a break from the International Style. The design principles established by Condominium 1 included the use of what Moore termed aedicules, small intimate spaces defined by four columns and a canopy, and "saddlebags", small projections of the interior space to the exterior that provide a view or a contemplative space. The units are arranged with horizontal and vertical view lines through the space.</p><br>
<h2>Reception</h2><br>
<p>The condominium was featured in an extensive public relations campaign to promote the Sea Ranch development and appeared in Newsweek, the New York Times, and Life, as well as design magazines such as Perspecta and Japan Architect. It received a design citation from Progressive Architect, a California Governor&#39;s Design Award in 1966 and an American Institute of Architects Honor Award in 1967. In 1991 it received the AIA Twenty-five Year Award and Moore was awarded the AIA Gold Medal. The structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.</p><br>
